I tend to read physical books versus audiobooks, although I’ve noticed in my book club that the audio readers tend to retain more info than I do - or maybe they’re paying more attention that I do!
I drive for my job so I have traditionally listened to a lot of audiobooks but have decreased that number over the years. I definitely don't retain most of the audiobooks I read. It may be that I am more of a visual learner as opposed to auditory.
A Gentleman in Moscow is really top-notch literature. Fascinating premise (house arrest at the Metropol). Masterful. I love how increasingly vast he makes the hotel seem, I appreciate the count’s skill as a connoisseur, the character development is delightful, the varying levels of conflict… I’ve read the book twice so far.
At the end of a run of teaching early 20C literature, so coming closer to the present with Javier Marías. Read “Berta Isla” last year and now reading “Tomás Nevison”. His writing is apparently leisurely but then twists and turns and delivers some shocks. Simply marvellous, especially in Margaret Jull Costa’s translation. She worked alongside him on the translations and writes of his death as a bereavement
My daughter’s boyfriend (visiting from Ireland) is on the deck reading #1 right this instant, and #3 is one of my all-time favorites. Looks like a fun summer!
I am reading War and Peace.. I think it will be my Spring and Summer read. 😁
You are going to enjoy Amor Towles so much!! I have read most of his books. A Gentleman in Moscow is a perfect slow read. And it stays with you. Enjoy!
I am just getting started on the Wayward Pines series. I love finding a good series, and I’ve heard this is a great one.
I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I listened to it on audiobook and it was one of the more surprising reading experiences I had last year.

Great to hear! I'm excited to get into it
The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my all-time favorite books. Glad to hear you are enjoying it!
It is so good! I can see why people love it so much
