This is a big conundrum for me; love to read but need to keep to a very active lifestyle -- walking and exercising a lot -- coupled with dedicating time to chores and errands.
I read mainly for enjoyment, which is centered around 1. sports, 2. humanities (some but less fiction here), 3. social sciences, 4. some current events and 5. upkeep in second, third and fourth languages (more fiction here). With five huge categories and so little time, sports, some humanities and social studies is what I get to the most.
I could have written this same thing, Tim. š I envy people sometimes who just read 1-2 genres because it simplifies things but I just have such broad interests. Sounds like you are the same way
I read to keep up in my field (history, mainly WW II) although Iām a retired professor, to learn something new (New Testament Greek at present), to explore the world (science and nature), and yes, fiction as the mood strikes. I think reading multiple books at a time for me is optimal. Reading first and foremost should be fun!!
So true! I've got stirner's "the ego and its own", "junkie" by burroughs, some karl polaniy, and "six of crows" lined up on my nightstand meant to be read simultaneously. Best way to read, just needs some poetry lmao
I'm also a mood reader, and have a number of books going at once. I am part of 2 book clubs, so for better or worse, they dictate some of my reading. Often their choices are not on my TBR list, but turn out to be favorites. At the same time, I'm reading something ancient, a classic, something spiritual and something fun. I prefer holding an actual book, but do use my kindle for the more fluffy books like mysteries, things I won't want to keep on my shelf to reread.
Yes! I have done a couple of book clubs and have found some great books as well. I also prefer an actual physical book most of the time too. Something about the texture and visually seeing my progress makes me feel good

I wish I could accomplish more reading.
